Location: S of the A3122, E of the A381 and roughly 1nm E of Halwell village, 4nm S of Totnes, 5nm WNW of Dartmouth, 7nm WSW of Torquay

Period of operation: Late 1990s (?) to -
 

Runway(s): 09/27   421x10   grass       2004: E/W   460x110   grass

 

NOTES: It appears that in 2004 the runway was repositioned parallel with the road and about 200 metres north of the previous runway. Still roughly E/W the new runway was about 480 metres. In 2005 described as being 450 metres long but described as being 480 metres long in an AAIB report in 2009.  Mainly used by microlight types but available for use by suitable light aircraft.

Venue for the PFA Devon Strut ‘Fly-in’ July 7th 2002 and June 18th/19th 2005.

As explained elsewhere the PFA, (now LAA), influence on British GA activities is a very important aspect of our aviation heritage.



A MOST UNUSUAL DEVELOPMENT
In the 2000s a gang, (or gangs?), of criminals have set about stealing Rotax engines installed in aircraft. On the night of the 13th June 2017 they raided this airfield and stole four engines. The Police forces are, it appears, acting as typical Constable 'Plod' - big boots on their feet but nothing under the helmet.

It is blatently obvious that these low-life scum have two options. Either they export these engines, or sell them in the UK. Should the latter be the case, at least in part, it must be a pretty simple exercise to expose them, given just a bit of agreement and cooperation between legitimate owners of Rotax engines, the BMAA, the LAA and other parties.
