Bancroft

Note: This map shows the location of Bancroft Farm, so presumably the Landing Ground was nearby?

BANCROFT: Military Landing Ground

Military user: RFC 33 (Home Defence) Sqdn

Location: About 2nm SSW of Finningley village, apparently just E of the A614 and Pale Park. This said, Bancroft Farm is just to the W of the A614.

Period of operation: 1916 to 1919

Site area: 64 acres    686x640   grass

NOTES: This WW1 airfield was just SE of the WW2 FINNINGLEY aerodrome and according to a contemporary map of the site known as BRANCROFT (FINNINGLEY) although in those days the site was in NOTTINGHAMSHIRE. Some sources reckon the spelling is BRANCROFT. However, Bancroft Farm still exists.
