This lovely picture of Captain Philips with an Avro 504K, the owner and leading light in the Cornwall Aviation Company, is captioned: "The spirit of the Royal Flying Corps lives on. Captain Percival Philips, Distinguished Flying Cross, Meritorious Service Medal, photographed beside his Avro at Barnet in 1929, twelve years after he won his wings."
The Cornwall Aviation Company were involved in joy-riding enterprises mostly in southern England, ranging from Cornwall to the south-east of England. But they did venture much further north.
I think it is also interesting that, despite the shorts, he is still wearing this RFC tunic? No doubt to create credibility in his airmanship capabilities?
The second picture, (courtesy Philips family), was also scanned from Cornwall Aviation Company and is captioned: "At Barnet, June 1928. Dick Turpin, Cyril Poole, Harold Wilson, PP, Les Marshall, George Hawke and Fred Overs."
Clearly both pictures were taken at the same time but the dates on the captions don't coincide, which is a bit of a shame. There is no way of knowing from these pictures but I wouldn't be at all surprised if the Avro 504K is G-EBIZ, which was Captain Philips favourite.
If anybody can kindly offer advice on this venue, it will be much appreciated.
