Barnhurst
Note: This map only shows my guess as to the possible location. Sufficient to show an approximate position within the UK - but hardly satisfactory of course. If anybody can kindly confirm this, or provide a more exact location, this advice will be most welcome.
BARNHURST: Private company airfield (Was this airfield PENDEFORD/WOLVERHAMPTON?)

Location: Near Wolverhampton
Period of operation: WW2 only?
NOTES: Described as being a small aerodrome in 1940 during an exercise to determine the effectiveness of the camouflaging of various aircraft factories.

This comment was written on: 2020-04-18 15:48:48Yes. I am pretty sure that this is Pendeford Airfield by another name. The road running along the western boundary of what was Boulton Paul's factory is known as Barnhurst Lane. Balliols were built in the factory. My wife's auntie used to work there during the war. Rather prosaically, the name Barnhurst now applies to the large sewage disposal works just to the south of the site of the old airfield and which serves a sizeable area of Wolverhampton.
