Barnultoch Farm
BARNULTOCH FARM: Private airstrip
Note: Both of these pictures were obtained from Google Earth ©
Operated by: Mr Patrick J H McCraig
Location: About 0.5nm N of the B7077, roughly 3nm SE to SSE of Stranrear town centre
Period of operation: 1965 to 1989
Runway: 08/26 360 grass
Note: A look at the first picture appears to show what might have been a gap in the hedge? So, perhaps, the runway may once have been longer? This said, a Jodel D.112, especially with just the pilot on board, could I think, easily cope with 360 metres.
NOTES: We have to thank Mr Graham Frost, a great friend of this 'Guide' for prompting me to look again at this entry. He also advised where the runway was.
It appears that Mr McCraig based his Wassmer built Jodel D.112 (G-ARDO) here from 1965 to 1989, and when it was then sold on to be based in Northern Ireland, the airstrip fell into disuse. It is said the hangar for the Jodel stayed in existence for several years after the airstrip was closed.
