Bath racecourse
BATH RACECOURSE: Private airfield, (in WW2 a RLG), and later a helicopter landing area
See also LANSDOWN (listed in BATH FLYING SITES) for extra details
Note: This picture was obtained from Google Earth ©
Although a race meeting is clearly taking place, and although 'zooming in' I can find no evidence of a helicopter on the site. Which seems rather odd because if you Google Bath racecourse, there seems to be no end of helicopter operations taking place here.

Location: Strips on SW corner of racecourse, NW of Bath
Period of operation: (Fixed wing) WW2, later 1950s to 1980s only?
Runways: 1965 - 02/20 335x18 grass 10/28 442x18 grass
NOTES: Helicopter landing area operated mainly on race days.
AN AIRSTRIP?
Quite apart, perhaps, from the 1930s airstrip listed under LANSDOWN, it appears an airstrip was in use here in the 1970s at least. But, was this in the same location as the 1930s airstrip? Could anybody kindly advise?
WW2 HISTORY
It appears that BATH RACECOURSE was used a Relief Landing Ground by 3 FIS (Flight Instructors School) in 1944/45 using Airspeed Oxfords. Here again, could anybody kindly provide more information?
