Beacon Fell
BEACON FELL: Paragliding site
Location: Roughly 5nm NW of Longridge, and 11nm SE of Lancaster
PICTURES: By the author taken in August 2016:
NOTES:
Set in the south west corner of the truly lovely Forest of Bowland, which itself could well be arguably the least appreciated of our many areas of outstanding natural beauty - and long may that remain to be the case.
It appears that this site has been popular for many years, and presumably, was first used by very fit and determined hang-gliding pilots? On my short visit to the area in August 2016 I only saw para-gliders, and there seems a good reason for this. Access by road is limited to more or less the bottom of the hill, so everything has to lugged up on foot - quite a trek and it looks pretty steep in places.
