Note: This map only gives a rough indication of where this heliport might have been. If I am correct, and it was a seperate site, any advice on this will be most welcome.

BECCLES: Temporary heliport

Operated by: BEA

Location: ?

Period of operation: June to September 1948

NOTES: Although BECCLES is a well known WW2 airfield in SUFFOLK and later a major North Sea helicopter base, it now seems likely BEA established a rudimentary heliport “over the border” in NORFOLK?

Yes this was a major British Airways Helicopters base until this BA division was sold to the Maxwell corporation. It operated to the Gas fields in the North Sea, sometimes via North Denes outside Great Yarmouth. Aircraft operated from here were the Sikorsky S58 in the 1970's, the Sikorksy S76 and the Westlands 30. Great bunch of guys worked here in the Engineering hanger and in the Operations Centre.
