Bedfield

BEDFIELD: Military Landing Ground

Military user: RFC  (Royal Flying Corps) / RAF (Royal Air Force)

51 [Home Defence] Sqdn   (Royal Aircraft Factory B.E.2, B.E.12, later Avro 504K)

75 [Home Defence] Sqdn   (Royal Aircraft Factory B.E.2c, B.E.2e, later F.E.2b)

Location: A real ‘back of beyond’ site this one. In/near Bedfield village about 2 to 2.5nm N of the A1120 roughly 14nm NNE of Ipswich, 10nm SE of Diss and also 10nm WNW of Saxmundham

Period of operation: 1916 to 1919

Site area: 38 acres    457 x 274

NOTES: I rwonder what the life-style of all those involved must have been like in those relatively far-off days during WW1 at a remote airfield such as this?
