BIRCHINGTON: Temporary aerodrome
NOTES: On the 24th August 1933 Sir Alan Cobham’s No.2 Tour displayed at Birchington which is at the western extremity of the conurbation stretching west from Margate through to Westgate-on-Sea. Is the exact location for this venue known? It seems that Cobham’s 1934 Tour also displayed here on the 26th August as did Cobham’s No.1 Tour on the 2nd August 1935?
In fact, in 1935 the No.1 Tour seems to contradict the previous practise of zig-zagging all over the country by displaying at RAMSGATE the day before and HERNE BAY the next day, with venues barely more than five miles apart!
Perhaps, by this time, the people in charge of planning had purchased a map?
