BOGGIS’ FARM: Private Landing Ground

Location: East of the B1127 Lowestoft Road, probably roughly E of Reydon and N of Southwold.

NOTES: It appears that Alan Cobham’s 1935 No.1 Tour performed here on the 11th July 1935.
From information in the 1930s ‘A.A. Register of Landing Grounds’ the Landing Ground location is “1m N of town imm adjoining sea”. This was one of seventy four A.A. (Automobile Association) approved Landing Grounds on mainland Britain during the 1930s. Fuel and transport, (the latter being usually a taxi service), was available from Southwold & District Service Garage, Reydon.
The recommended hotel was The Grand Hotel in Southwold. It appears that this hotel might well have been another casualty of WW2? A telephone was available, “at owner’s house”, presumably occupied by Mr Boggis (?) and no hangar was available.
