Activities: Air Disarmament Operational


 

Location: 3nm NE of Chelmsford town centre

Period of operation: 1944 to 1945 military then later possibly civil in (?)
 

Runways: 16/34   1828x46   hard           03/21   1280x46   hard 
                09/27   1280x46   hard

 

NOTES: This aerodrome later become a Ford Motor Company test facility but in 1944 it seems that USAF Douglas C-47s flew from here to the Rhine crossing fiasco. Another account says this airfield closed on the 15th April 1946. There are reports of some post-war GA activity, possibly associated with Ford Motor Company business?
