Bosworth Hall
BOSWORTH HALL: Private airfield
Operated by: Major D T Constable Maxwell
Location: Near Husbands Bosworth 5nm WSW of Market Harborough
Period of operation: 1947 to 1970s only?
Runway: 05/23 914x46 grass
NOTES: A small number of successful air rallies were held here and one source says that GA activity ceased in 1969. However, it appears that in the mid 1970s the Helio H-395 G-ARLD was based at MARKET BOSWORTH and registered to Mr P F Hall. It raises the question of course, was Mr Hall operating from another nearby strip?
I suppose the clue must be the runway dimensions as 46 metres (50 yards) was the standard width of a WW2 hard runway. Also the orientation coincides with one of the HUSBANDS BOSWORTH runways. I imagine that part of this is now known as the airstrip listed as SULBY?
If anybody can kindly offer advice, this will be much appreciated.
A BIT MORE INFO
In 2022 Mr Graham Frost, a great friend of this 'Guide', told me that the fairly unusual Auster J/5R Alpine G-AOGV, (only six built), was based here from 14.03.60 until 12.06.61. Then later, the Piper PA-24-250 Comanche, G-ARBO, 17.11.64 until 07.07.65, both registered to Mr D T Constable Maxwell. Presumably he had another aircraft based here in between these dates?
