Bourne Park
BOURNE PARK: Private airstrip
Note. Pictures by the author unless specified.
Location: Near and N of Andover, E of the A343, S of Hurstbourne Tarrant
Period of operation: 1990s to 2020
Runway: E/W about 700 metres grass (An AAIB report in 2009 says 11/29 750m grass)
NOTES: As often said elsewhere in this ‘Guide’, I am not prepared to give more exact locations for private airstrips unless authorised by the operator. And yes, I have landed here more than once. For example in the Cessna 172 G-BDNU from ELSTREE in September 2006.
It is a most welcoming and quite lovely airfield to visit, and it appears, was once used by Dakotas (C-47s/DC-3s) for a film featuring the resistence movement in Yugoslavia during WW2.

Plane spotters are not welcome by the owners and so I had little option but to leave. From what I could see there are four or so small hangars for maintenance and several helicopters on site and possibly upto half a dozen light aircraft. Shame because it is a lovely setting but I understand that the whole operation is moving to Thruxton due to property developers acquiring the land.
