Bowness
Note: This map only gives a general position within the UK. It was very tempting when I started this research about twenty years ago to put all the info for Lake Windemere into 'one bag'. However, it now appears that over the pre-WW1 period at least two if not three seperate operations were going on in fairly close proximity. See seperate entries for BOWNESS-on-WINDEMERE and COCKSHOTT POINT for example.

NOTES: Several influential people in the Royal Navy had been following aviation developments from 1911 at least. In January 1912 Rear-Admiral Troubridge recommended that 20 officers be given flying instruction, proposing that those who could not be accommodated at EASTCHURCH, (in Kent), should be instructed at either the Bristol School, (BROOKLANDS?), or at the Windermere Hydroplane School.
