Brigmerston Down
Notes: This map only gives a rough position within the UK. Very little appears known about this Landing Ground, so any advice and information will be most welcome.
BRIGMERSTON DOWN: Military Landing Ground
Military user: WW1: RFC (Royal Flying Corps)
CFS (Central Flying School) UPAVON
Location: Presumably just SW of Tidworth Army camp and N of Bulford Army camp
NOTES: Without any doubt, with UPAVON being so busy in WW1, the desirability of having a handful of nearby Landing Grounds would have been, I suppose, a neccessity. But, it also occurs to me, that with so many pilots about to be despatched to France, the techniques needed to locate and land on very rudimentary Landing Grounds, would have been very useful too.
Could BRIGMERSTON also have been used for these duties - or this is just fanciful thinking. Without any doubt those unfortunate souls destined to fly over the trenches appear to have been very poorly trained to cope with what could be expected.
