Broadcroft Farm
BROADCROFT FARM: Private airstrip (Aka LEA END)
Note: The first three pictures were obtained from Google Earth ©. The area view is from my Google Earth © derived database.
Location: Just WNW of Lea End, about 7nm SSW of Birmingham city centre
Period of operation: Unknown? Perhaps around 2012/13 to 2016?
Runway: 06/24 300 dirt/grass
NOTES: This is interesting. Although the dating of Google Earth images is notoriously unreliable, (and I have no idea why this should be?), nothing exists here in 2007. Then again, possibly the 2013 picture offers a clue? Perhaps, this was when the strip was being laid out and presumably levelled. As a general rule, having gone to the trouble and expense of erecting a hangar, this indicates that it was envisaged that a strip will be in use for many years.
But, by 2017, it seems the hangar had been removed. No doubt a story can be told? As always in this 'Guide', if anybody can kindly offer advice and information, this will be most welcome. In attempting to become an 'anorak' I would certainly like to know what aeroplane was based here. And, pushing my luck no doubt, is a picture available?
