Brook End Farm
BROOK END FARM: Private airstrip
The 2020 picture was obtained from Google Earth ©, and appears to show during an extended dry period, perhaps traces of the airstrip?
The local area view and area view are from my Google Earth © derived database. Do please bear in mind that far from all the listings in this 'Guide' are marked. And, many more will be.
Operated by: Mr Andrew West
Location: Just NW of Brook End village on the B660. About 0.75nm NW to NNW of Keysoe village, also on the B660. Roughly 7nm WNW of St Neots town centre and also roughly 11nm ESE of Wellingborough town centre
Period of operation: Unknown? Certainly from 1967 to 1968
Runway: 14/32 480 (?) grass
NOTES: We have Mr Graham Frost, a great friend of this 'Guide', to thank for pointing out this location. He tells us that the Alon A.2 ERCO, G-ATRY, was based here. Indeed, further investigation shows it was registered to Mr Andrew West, at this address, from 02.02.67 until 13.06.68. However, this most unusual aircraft, fitted without a rudder bar, but apparently incapable of being stalled into a spin, is also known by other names. For example: ERCO Ercoupe, ERCO Aircoupé and Forney Aircoupé.
Graham also tells us that the Chrislea CH3 Super Ace Srs 2, G-AKVF (ex AP-ADT) was also noted as being seen here, presumably visiting during this period as the two owners with their most unorthodox control systems would have had much to compare and discuss. (None of the previous owners lived anywhere near).
What we do not know is if this airstrip was being operated over a longer time span? If anybody can kindly offer advice and information, this will be much appreciated.
We'd love to hear from you, so please scroll down to leave a comment!
