Buckland Newton
BUCKLAND NEWTON: Private airstrip and helipad (Aka COURT FARM)
Note: It now appears (2024) that the correct name is: RIDGE HILL AIRFIELD
Note: All six of these pictures were obtained from Google Earth ©
Location: Just W of Buckland Newton village, 10nm SE of Yeovil town centre and 12.5nm W of Blandford Forum town centre
Period of operation: Late 1990s (?) to -
Runway: As the pictures above show, it is hard to determine the history and dimensions of this strip.
2002: Appearing to be rather narrow. 05/23 750 (perhaps?) grass
2017: Appearing much wider: 05/23 485 (perhaps?) grass
NOTES: Is it safe to assume that the airstrip and helipad are operated by the same person or people? The helipad on a very small island in a pond is, as far as I am aware, a unique feature. The rather blurred detail image shows a pretty serious type of machine. No room for error landing here, but of course highly proficient helicopter pilots can easily land on the smallest of spaces - including on top of lighthouses for example.
As always in this 'Guide', if anybody can kindly offer advice, this will be most welcome.
In February 2025, Mr Graham Frost, a great friend of this 'Guide', found evidence that planning permission for this airstrip had been denied. Such a shame of course, but, it could still be operated under the '28 day' rule.
