BURFORD: Civil private aerodrome

Period of operation: Military ? Civil 1946 (?) to 1950
NOTES: It is all rather confusing. One source at least describes this site as RAF BURFORD, but I cannot find any proof of this being a military airfield. Without any doubt some think this site was also known as RAF WINDRUSH, but that was actually about 3nm further west.
What is definitely the case is that this 'airfield' was used by the rather ostentiously named Anglo Continental Air Services who started operations here in June 1948 with two Auster J/1 Autocrats, G-AGTW and G-AHHH. Perhaps they had plans to 'up-grade' to Douglas DC-3/C-47s? Later the Auster 5 G-AJVT was added to the fleet but it wasn't a sustainable business and folded in late 1950.

This comment was written on: 2020-11-03 15:35:23I did hear if it was true or not it was used for strip landings by the military during the war and after, for little rissington and windrush landing on a grass field.
