Burtenshaw Farm
BURTENSHAW FARM: Private airstrip (Aka BARCOMBE NORTH and SPITHURST)
Note: All four of these pictures were obtained from Google Earth ©
Location: Just S to SE of Spithurst, roughly 3nm SW of Uckfield and about 4.5nm NNE of Lewes
Runway: Initial info: E/W roughly 375 (?) grass
In 2009: 11/29 460 grass
Note: A look at Google Earth (image date 2015) clearly shows the runway as: 11/29 530 grass
NOTES: Apparently used infrequently in the 2000s with a short runway passing through a narrow gap in a hedge about halfway along. It has a small hangar once housing a Jodel and later an Avid Speedwing perhaps?
It has been of course, in so many cases, quite a problem to determine, exactly what various locations of private airstrips should be named as. This being an excellent example. There is often a risk of confusing two airstrips situated very close together - in a few cases quite literally in adjacent fields!
This doesn't appear the case here, but why has it been named with four different titles?
As always in this 'Guide' if anybody can kindly offer advice, this will be most welcome.

I'd like to know if the National Park or anyone else imposes any restrictions on these activities which are only going to be increasingly commercialised in future - then so much for the tranquility of this stunning landscape!
