Byhurst Farm

BYHURST FARM: Civil aerodrome

Pleasure flights: Leatherhead Aviation Services

Location: Maldon Rushett, 2nm N of Leatherhead town centre

Period of operation: 1920 to 1922

NOTES: The flying displays put on by Leatherhead Flying Services, (created by William G Chapman whom, it appears,  taught himself to fly on a Deperdussin before WW1), frequently had parachute drops performed by a French lady, Mme J Finet. Parachuting was justifiably regarded as being a very daring escapade in those days.
