NOTES: One of the great pleasures in producng this 'Guide' is the amount of help and advice freely given. Two of the most notable volunteers are Mike Holder and Graham Frost. Both of whom who have contributed to this listing. So, in effect this listing has been a group effort between the three of us. My role being by far the least important as the editor.

We do not know which field was used. What interested me is that in many records this venue is listed as Kilmarnock, even though it is actually closer to Irvine. But, as I have learned over the years, the status of many towns has changed quite considerably over the last, in this case, ninety years.

The development of urban sprawl in many towns and cities came about due to the industrial revolution, especially in the 19th century. It was after WW1 and especially after WW2, that towns situated fairly close to major cities, in this case Glasgow, saw considerable urban expansion taking place, not least to house commuters. So, I expect that Kilmarnock was, in those days, very much the major town in that area.
