DERBY ARMS HOTEL: Hot-Air Balloon flights rendezvous point

Location: In the 'village' of Town End which is just N of the AA590, very roughly 1nm SE of Witherslack

NOTES: According to a web-site I found in 2018, Virgin Balloon Flights were using the Derby Arms Hotel as a rendezvous point where passengers could meet up with their crew(s). They would then be transported in a Virgin Land Rover to one of a number of launch sites nearby.

The history of ballooning in the UK is fascinating and goes right back to the 18th century, although the emergence of passenger carrying enterprises for hire and reward appears to have occurred towards the end of the 19th century.

It re-emerged perhaps in the 1970s initially (?), and quickly gained pace and popularity. I have no idea how the situation in recent years compares with, say, thirty years ago, but the signs certainly appear to be that if not roughly the same, if anything the popularity of this aerial experience has increased. Could anybody kindly offer advice?
