Hill Farm

NOTE:  Many years ago I made this comment:  "Listed below are two listings for HILL FARM gleaned over the last twenty years. It would seem obvious they are the same site, but experience has taught me to be very wary of jumping to easy conclusions. If anybody can kindly offer advice, this will be much appreciated."

Since then many of the time gaps have slowly been filled in, and one name remains constant - Mr Harold Swift. Have left the original two listings layout in place, for two reasons. Firstly it saves me the task of having to do the whole listing layout again, but secondly, hopefully, to also illustrate how, over many years, many of listings slowly get cobbled together. The last time I amended this listing was in September 2025.

HILL FARM: Private airstrip     (also known as MARTON & NEW ELLERBY)

Aerial view 2003

Note: The first two pictures were obtained from Google Earth ©. The local area view is from my Google Earth© derived database.

Location: Just N of Marton, E of the A165, roughly 7nm NNE to NE of Hull

Period of operation: 1970s & 1980s only?

Runway:  2003:  18/36   320   grass

Note: With reference to the site listed below, it would appear, looking at the Google Earth pictures, that this runway could well have been longer?

NOTES: In the mid 1970s it appears two aircraft were based here; Jodel D.117A G-ASXY (ex F-BIVA) and Bolkow Bo 208C Junior G-ATDO (ex D-EGZU).
It appears that Mr Swift owned G-ATDO over two periods. Initially from 16.02.76 to 06.06.85, then, roughly three years later, from 05.12.88 until 26.01.2000.

HILL FARM: Private airstrip

Operated by:  From 1966? : Mr H Swift

Location: 10nm NE of Hull

Runway: 01/19   450x14    grass

NOTES:  Mr Graham Frost, a long term friend of this 'Guide', tells us that the Auster J/I Autocrat, G-AJDY, was registered to Mr Swift from 13.06.66 to 15.05.67. It then went into joint ownership between Mr Swift and Mr Taylor from 17.05.67 until 24.05.71.

So, over the years trying hard to obtain real  'anorak' status, and mostly failing of course, the time gaps, when I assume Mr H Swift owned other aircraft (?), seem to be:  From 1967 to 1976, and then between 1985 to 1988. Plus of course, no details of aircraft based here since 2000.
