HOLFORD HALL:   Private airfield?

Location: Just W of Plumley village, about 2.5nm ENE of Northwich town centre

Period of operation:  1950 to 1952?

The Taylorcraft Auster 5 Alpha, G-AIPN, was registered to Mr Peter Barry at this address from 03.10.50 until 13,02.52 when it was sold to France as F-BGPD. 

I find the local picture above very interesting. It has long been known that during very dry periods evidence of pre-existing human activity can be revealed going back two thousand years at least. So, does this picture show where landing strips were once laid out? If so, they would be, roughly:

E/W   280   grass         NE/SW   260   grass         NNE/SSW   250   grass

A bit tight perhaps, but easily managed by a Taylorcraft Auster 5 which was designed for STOL operations.

What we do not know is if it was based here? If anybody can kindly offer advice this will be much appreciated.
