HORNLEY COMMON: Military airstrip/ Landing Ground

NOTES: This is a corker - so where was this? Apparently used by the giant (for their day) RAF Blackburn B-101 Beverly aircraft for STOL practise! The Beverley was operational from 1957 to 1967.

Can we find out more?

Another search on Google in 2015 did reveal a mention of HORNLEY COMMON as an ancient Barrow is located here. This doesn't particularly help with locating the airstrip of course but very roughly it was probably in the area between the M.3 and the A.30 and SE of BLACKBUSHE airport.

On the other hand, the Google map I have provided reveals Gibraltar Barracks fairly close by to the SW, and so I suspect these two sites possibly had an operational connection in terms of joint exercises?
