NOTES: Venue on the 14th July 1933 for Sir Alan Cobham’s No.2 Tour. Huntly is on the A96 roughly 33nm NW of Aberdeen and deciding to display here really does, I think, illustrate how totally dedicated the Cobham team were in their quest to bring “Air mindedness” to the British public.

The itinerary they set themselves was relentless and frankly unbelievable by today’s standards, operating day-long displays and passenger rides month after month with barely a days rest from April to October. Displaying at Huntley took place in the middle of July so to make my point, here is the whole July 1933 schedule:

1st & 2nd CRAMLINGTON (NEWCASTLE), 3rd KELSO, 4th PENICUIK, 5th PERTH

6th KIRKINTILLOCH, 7th ALLOA, 8th & 9th GLASGOW. Presumably the crews regarded a two day venue almost as a holiday?

The 10th was BATHGATE, 11th St ANDREWS, 12th BRECHIN, 13th KIRRIEMUIR and on the 14th here at HUNTLY of course.

On the 15th they displayed at MACDUFF and on the 16th & 17th ABERDEEN.

The 18th was LOSSIEMOUTH, 19th NAIRN, 20th STONEHAVEN, 21st BATHGATE and the 22nd and 23rd at EDINBURGH.

On the 24th they visited DUNBAR, NORTH BERWICK on the 25th and AIRDRIE on the 26th.

BERWICK-ON-TWEED was the venue for the 27th followed by MORPETH on the 28th. TYNEMOUTH was the venue on the 29th & 30th before finishing the month at SUNDERLAND on the 31st.

Cobham’s 1934 Tour also visited Huntley displaying on the 11th May that year. Presumably using the previous venue?
