Ibstone
Note: This map only gives a rough position within the UK. If anybody can kindly provide a more exact location, this advice will be most welcome.
IBSTONE: Gliding site
I have no idea where this gliding site was, and the nature of the local area has probably changed a lot in the last ninety years. But, in those days especially, gliding took place from, or near to, the top of a hill, for obvious reasons, and of course favouring prevailing winds. If anybody can kindly offer advice, this will be most welcome.
Operated by: Oxford and County Gliding Club
Location: Near and I suspect NE of Ibstone which is roughly 2nm SSE of Stokenchurch. Stokenchurch is a large village famous amongst many pilots at least for the nearby radio mast which is a much used navigation feature on the edge of the Chiltern hills. It’s also S of the deep cutting on the M.40 15nm WNW of High Wycombe
NOTES: Listed as operating in 1930.
