ILFORD: Temporary aerodrome

Operated by: At least by one of the Alan Cobham Tours in the early 1930s

Location: ?

NOTES: To date, in early 2018, the only evidence I have found is a mention in the excellent book Cornwall Aviation Company by Ted Chapman, published in 1979.

This was when, from 1932, the Cornwall Aviation Company were sub-contracted by Alan Cobham to provide a mostly 'joy-riding' operation. But, they also provided 'stunt flying acts'. And indeed, passengers could pay extra for being treated to basic aerobatics in the Avro 504K. It appears that women were much attracted to this option.

The mention is: "At Ilford, Captain Philips' aircraft suffered a broken tappet rod on take-off, but he managed to land safely with no injuries to the passengers."
