Inverkeithing

Note: Needless to say, this map only gives the location of Inverkeithing within the UK. I suppose that today nobody knows where Lieut. Dawes actually landed?

INVERKEITHING: Temporary Landing Ground

Location: Close to and E of Rosyth on the north bank of the Firth of Forth

NOTES: In late August/early September 1913 No.2 Squadron RFC flew from MONTROSE to RATHBANE near Limerick in Ireland via STRANRAER (DUMFRIES & GALLOWAY).

Lieut. Dawes had to land and stay overnight in INVERKEITHING due to a broken petrol pipe.

See STRANRAER for a fuller account of this pioneering flight.

There is a hanger at 56°02'20.9"N 3°24'04.0"W but this would not be from the same time-frame of 1913.
