Irish Republic

Note: Due to the way Google Maps work I have selected a site roughly in the centre of the Republic of Ireland. Please expand the image to see the entire country.

NOTES:  Before the Republic of Ireland was established in 1922, then as the Irish Free State, this Country was part of the UK. To this extent I have included this list of sites used as airfields operational during the period before independence was gained.

Flying sites in SOUTHERN IRELAND/EIRE before 1922: ATHLONE (Co. West Meath), BALDONNEL (Co. Dublin), BEREHAVEN (Co. CORK), BIRR (Co. OFFALY), CASTLEBAR (Co. MAYO), COLLINSTOWN, (Co. Dublin), CURRAGH (Co. Kildare), FERMOY (Co. Cork), GORMANSTAN (Co. Meath), KILLEAGH (Co. Cork), LUCAN (Co. Dublin), MALAHIDE (Co. Dublin), ORANMORE (Co. Galway), RATHMULLEN (Co. Donegal), RATHBONE (Co, LIMMERICK), TALLAGHT (Co.Dublin), WATERFORD (Co.Waterford - see seperate listing), WEXFORD (Co. Wexford), WEXFORD HARBOUR (Co. Wexford), and WHIDDY ISLAND (Co. Cork). If I have made a couple of mistakes here, including sites that really should be in Northern Ireland - I will welcome any corrections.

There were also U.S. Naval Air Stations at:  BEREHAVEN, LOUGH FOYLE, QUEENSTOWN, WEXFORD and WHIDDY ISLAND in Bantry Bay.

And of course, I rather doubt that this list includes all the airfields? Any advice will be most welcome.
