Kirby Hall
KIRBY HALL: Private airstrip/airfield?
A QUERY? This project is very much about posing questions, rather than always trying to provide answers. Very much the case here when Mr Graham Frost, a great friend of this 'Guide', sent me this query. He had found that the de Havilland DH82A Tiger Moth G-AGYU (ex DE208) was registered to Mr Anthony Haig-Thomas with this address from 23.06.71 until 21.10.80.
Over the years I have become very wary about jumping to conclusions, but, this subject does seem worthy of posing a question. Kirby Hall, in the village of Kirby-le-Soken, just west of Walton-on-the-Naze, does have a field just to the south/south-east with possible landing runs of over 400 metres, so quite adequate for use by a Tiger Moth. Therefore, even if it wasn't based here (?), it would seem quite likely that visits may have been made?
If anybody can kindly offer advice, this will be much appreciated.
