The first four pictures were obtained from Google Earth ©. In recent years at more remote sites such as this, the picture quality has often been seriously degraded. Why? I would have expected that definition would get better.

The first picture above shows the "lazy" option launch site, next to the car park. The local area and area views are from my Google Earth © derived database.

Note:  My database does not have, by any means, all the locations listed in this 'Guide' pinned.

Operated by:   Derbyshire Soaring Club

Location:  About 1.25nm NW of Castleton, roughly 4.5nm ENE to NE of Chapel-en-le-Frith town centre

Period of operation:  Unknown? Oddly perhaps, their web-site gives no historical information.

NOTES:  We have Mr Graham Frost, a great friend of this 'Guide' to thank for pointing out this location. It never ceases to astonish me that after over twenty-five years working to produce this 'Guide, on average I am still adding at least one new location every week. And, had missed this one, one of the most popular of its kind in the U.K.!

One of the main reasons for wanting to list these locations is simply because, using modern techniques to much improve things, I think these people, (and the gliding fraternity of course), can trace a direct link back to Otto Lilienthal making his 'gliding' experiments in Germany during the latter years of the nineteenth century. And, shortly after, in England, Percy Pilcher.

Finally, do please look for links with the Derbyshire Soaring Club as they have a range of excellent videos.

A REQUEST
Graham has also found some scant information about the Manchester Royal Aero Club conducting gliding in this region during the 1930s. Perhaps from here on occassions? If anybody can kindly offer advice, this will be most welcome.
