Meyrick Park
MEYRICK PARK: Early Landing Ground
Note: The first picture was obtained from Google Earth ©. The map was kindly provided by Mr Michael T Holder.
Location: N of the A338, E of the A347, about 1nm NW of Bournemouth town centre
NOTES: Apparently used by a number of early aviators visiting Bournemouth but possibly most famous at around that period was when Henri Salmet delivered Father Christmas in the winter of 1913. Somebody noticed that the Managing Director of the Beales department store seemed to be absent from his office, but did they guess what he was up to?
ANOTHER EVENT
On the 11th April 1914 Mr Gustav Hamel arrived to give a fabulous exhibition of flying.
These three items have also been provided by Mr Michael T Holder. They were published in the Bournemouth Graphic on the 17th April 1914.
