WOT THEY DONE WRIT

In those days you had to be pretty good at spelling, unlike so many youngsters today. I blame texting mainly. And, predictive spelling programmes often comes up with corkers of nonsense.  This said, to be fair, I can easily contribute too....mostly due to finger trouble on the confuser keyboard.

NOTES:  Mr Manton gained his pilots license in 1912, and fairly soon was taken on by Claude Grahame-White, based at HENDON. Following this it appears he became associated with B C Hucks to perform 'exhibitions of flying' as air displays were generally called in those days. Note how just one pilot could attract crowds of spectators that would, these days, make many air display organisers green with envy.

In WW2 it appears, this location had another aviation connection, the Hall being used as a RAF Secret Intelligence Service Station. In 1985 it became a H.M. Prison Service training college. Possibly with many recruits being posted, unknowingly perhaps (?), to a prison that was built on a WW2 airfield. Like Market Harborough and Lindholme for example.
