Normandy Farm

NORMANDY FARM:   Temporary Landing Ground        (Aka HILLMORTON and RUGBY)

Operated by:    Claude Grahame-White

Period of operation:  23rd April 1910

Location:  Very roughly equidistant between the A428 and A5(T), just ENE of Hillmorton and about 3nm E to ESE of Rugby town centre

This was the first landing Claude Grahame-White made, after taking off from PARK ROYAL in West  London in his first attempt to win the Daily Mail London to Manchester Air Race. On this first stage he broke the UK distance record, flying non-stop for 83 miles. In the event it was won by the French aviator Louis Paulhan.

Further information about the race can be found in the listings for:  BURNAGE, HADEMORE CROSSING, HENDON, LICHFIELD, ROADE, RUGBY flying sites and WORMWOOD SCRUBS.
