We have Mike Holder, a long term friend of this 'Guide', to thank for researching and providing the following items. As all the articles, adverts and notices are from the Hartlepool Northern Daily Mail, the HNDM abbreviation is used.
Judging from the 1938 map, is it safe to assume that the large field just NE of the farm was the one used?
Advert One was placed in the HNDM on the 17th September 1931. The short article was published in the HNDM on the 22nd September 1931.
Note: Berkshire Aviation can be traced back to just after WW1 when they were one of the first, if not the first company, to provide displays including joy rides, not just at seaside resorts, but also inland venues, all year round.
The Article One, in four parts, was published in the HNDM on the 27th June 1933.
Advert Two was placed in the HNDM on the 27th June 1933 and Article Two was published on the 29th June 1933.
Sir Alan Cobham's 1933 NAD tour was divided into two parts, the No.1 Tour and No.2 Tour. This venue featured on the No.2 Tour which commenced on the 14th/15th April at HOLT FARM, Southend and this was the 70th venue - and - they arrived on time!
The Notice was placed in the HNDM on the 4th September 1934. Advert Three was placed a day later on the 5th September and the Article Three was published on the 7th September.
Sir Alan Cobham's 1934 NAD Tour was far more restrained compared to the 1993 double Tours planned to visit 277 venues. This time 159 venues were planned, starting at CENTRAL PARK, Dagenham on the 14th April, this being the 138th venue. And yet, here again, it appears they arrived on time! Despite the volatile vagaries of the typical British weather, it says a lot about the flying skills of the pilots engaged.
