A MICHAEL T HOLDER GALLERY
We have Mike Holder, a long term friend of this 'Guide', to thank for investigating what may be available to illustrate this venue. Which, I expect, few know about today?
We do not know which field was used. My guess would be the large field adjacent to, and just north of the A4118, with the most open aspects, plus keeping the crowds away from the house.
The Article One was published in the South Wales Daily Post on the 31st May 1933.
Article Two was also published in the South Wales Daily Post, but on the 2nd June 1933.
It interests me that the advent of the 'Flying Circus' era, which started in the early 1930s, coincides with the 'Great Depression' in the UK, kicked off in the USA of course. In such circumstances most people invariably crave something that diverts their attention from coping with everyday problems. It didn't last too long though, petering out in 1937. By which time, for those in the 'know', the war clouds were gathering over Europe.
This letter, sent to the South Wales Daily Post, was published on the 6th June 1933.
This article, in three parts, was published in the Herald of Wales, on the 10th June 1933.
The local area and area views are both from my Google Earth © derived database.
NOTES: The 1933 British Hospitals Air Pageant tour, organised by Mr Barker and Mr McEwen King, started at LUTON on the 1st and 2nd April. Some 150 venues were planned to be visited and PARC le BREOS farm was the 49th venue. It terminated at WOOLWICH in south-east London on the 8th October. I have however read about something amounting to a scandal arising from this 'Tour'. This being about the amounts of money being later given to hospitals once the expenses of mounting this 'Tour' had been deducted. The allegations being that not much was left over.
