Pentney

PENTNEY: Military Relief Landing Ground

Military user:  RAF  (Royal Air Force)

RLG for MARHAM,  other sources say it was a Dispersal Airfield

(Used by Vickers Wellingtons)

Location: Roughly 1nm S of the A47, just SW of Pentney village, 6nm SSE to SE of Kings Lynn

Period of operation: 1939 to 1941 only?

NOTES:   One local history source states it was a Dispersal Airfield for RAF MARHAM, situated in fields just E of Abbey Field Farm.

Since starting research for this 'Guide' roughly about twenty years ago, (2019), I have been amazed how, very often, so little information seems readily available on the inter-web. But, I need to keep reminding myself, the internet itself is a fairly recent development.

Most of my information still comes from books, and I still rely very much on my local library to source these. The library service we have in the U.K. is a marvel, and my local library is certainly very popular. What a welcome contrast to the local library I had as a youngster - (about sixty years ago) - a most forbidding place to visit. It felt as if even the noise resulting in opening the door to enter was a violation of the sanctum!
