PIEROWALL: Military Flying Boat Moorings (also known as WESTRAY)
A MICHAEL T HOLDER GALLERY
Note: This third item, a great picture, was obtained from a project by Emily Glass, "Remembering Wartime Westray", c/o University of Bristol.
Note: I have added the area view from my Google Earth database.
Military user: Royal Air Force
Location: On Westray, in the Bay of Pierowall, just E of Pierowall on the B9067
Period of operation: 1918
NOTES: Used as an advanced base for RAF HOUTON BAY in late 1918. Clearly a number of various seaplane types used this facility. Certainly it seems Sopwith Babys and two Felixstowe F.3 flying boats.
