Pipewell Hall
PIPEWELL HALL: Private airstrip?
These three pictures are from my Google Earth© derived database.
Operated by: Mr David L Lloyd
Location: Roughly, 4nm SW of Corby town centre, 4.5nm NNW of Kettering town centre and 6nm ESE of Market Harborough town centre
Period of operation: Presumably between 1946 and 1985?
NOTES: We have Mr Graham Frost, a great friend of this 'Guide', to thank for pointing out this location. It has always been the intention from the start of this project, being just a 'Guide', to pose questions rather than always attempting to provide answers. The de Havilland DH82A Tiger Moth, G-AIXD, (ex N6968), was registered to Mr David L Lloyd at this address from 25.11.46 until 25.07.85.
There is no evidence to show it was based here, but, as Graham points out, surely he must have visited with the Tiger Moth during the nigh on forty years Mr Lloyd owned G-AIXD? And indeed, the 2004 picture above shows that a roughly E/W airstrip of around 500 metres could have been used. If anybody can kindly offer advice, this will be most welcome.
