PLUNGAR: Military Landing Ground

Military users: RFC/RAF  (Royal Flying Corps / Royal Air Force)

38 [Home Defence] Sqdn   (Royal Aircraft Factory B.E.2c and F.E.2b types) 

 

Location: Just W of Plungar village, about 9nm WSW of Grantham

Period of operation: 1916 to 1919
 

Site area: 76 acres      667 x 457

 

NOTES: With this airfield straddling the County border with LEICESTERSHIRE it appears that although the actual landing area was in NOTTINGHAMSHIRE, the settlement or buildings were just across the County line in LEICESTERSHIRE.
