Port Erin

PORT ERIN
: Temporary seaplane operating base

Operated by: The Avro Transport Co

Location: From the seafront W of Port Erin which is 4nm WNW of Castletown

Period of operation: 3rd September 1919 (Although it appears unlikely, was this venue also used at other times?)

NOTES: On the above date, it appears, Capt Howard C Pixton conducted several joy-riding flights after delivering the overnight editions of the Daily News to Douglas from COCKSHOT POINT on Lake Windermere. This was probably the last aerial newspaper delivery that year to the Isle of Man?

SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT?
What was going on in Port Erin which made the decision to fly here, rather than look for potential business in Douglas?
