Porthmadoc

Note: This map only shows the position of Porthmadog town within the UK. If anybody can kindly offer advice on a more exact location, this will be most welcome.

PORTHMADOC: Flying exhibition venue     (Spelt PORTHMADOG in more recent years)

Operated by: Gustav Hamel  (Presumably on behalf of the Daily Mail?)

Location: On the Welsh National Agricultural Show grounds

Period of operation: June 1913

NOTES: It is probably hard to appreciate today what an impact could have on a town if a display of flying had been arranged. Even just one pilot with an aircraft could be a major civic event, and in many cases if the event occurred on a weekday, a public holiday being declared. And of course, in many if not most cases, the majority of people had never seen an aeroplane.
