Porton

Note:  This map only shows the position of Porton village within the UK.

PORTON: Military Landing Ground

Military user: RAF  (Royal Air Force)

13 Sqdn (Hawker Hectors)

Location: Possibly or even probably part of the BOSCOMBE DOWN complex as we know it today?

Porton village is just S of the A338, roughly 3nm SE to SSE of Amesbury. Either way this LG was certainly pretty close to the present day BOSCOMBE DOWN

Period of operation:  1930s only?

NOTES:  I will readily admit to be confused. And, I cannot remember where I found a reference to this Landing Ground.

One problem is that nearby PORTON DOWN and WINTERBOURNE GUNNER also appear to have had airfields during this period. If anybody can kindly offer advice, this will be most welcome.
