PORTREE: Seaplane Alighting Area
 

Location: In the Sound of Raasay although the map does show a very convenient natural ‘harbour’ E of Portree on the eastern side of Skye which I assume is still part of the Sound. This location is shown on Admiralty chart 1839 from the 1930s


NOTES: Probably the first flying boat to land here was the Supermarine Saro Cloud G-ABXW on the 17th September 1935 on an exploratory flight. See MALLAIG for more info.
