Prestatyn
PRESTATYN: Temporary joy-riding locations
Operated by: Giro Aviation Company
Locations: It appears that they operated from the beach and nearby Highbury Avenue, (close to the Bastion Gardens park), but that the main base was BRYNTIRION FIELD. The latter being right on the border between Denbighshire and Flintshire.
Period of operation: 16th to 20th August 1920
A MICHAEL T HOLDER GALLERY
Here once again we have Mike Holder, a great long-term friend of this 'Guide', to thank for both discovering this information and providing the following items.
The article and excerpt were both published in the Prestatyn Weekly on the 21st August 1920.
The local area and area views are both from my Google Earth© derived database.
NOTES: We do not know if a hangar was erected to both store and maintain the aircraft, but I suspect this was not the case? In those days it was not unknown for a complete engine strip-down to be completed in the open, sometimes overnight using just parafin lamps.
PRESTATYN: Private airstrip
Operated by: Dr D A Jones?
Location: In/near Prestatyn….but where exactly?
Period of operation: 1970s only?
NOTES: It seems that in the mid 1970s Dr Jones based his Piper PA-23 Apache 160 G-ARTD here.
