RAF Boa Island
RAF BOA ISLAND Flying boat Mooring Station (Aka ROCK BAY)
The aerial view was obtained from Google Earth© and the local area and area views are from my Google Earth© derived database.
Location: Just S of the A47, about 2.5nm W of RAF CASTLE ARCHDALE
Period of operation: 1944 to 1945
NOTES: We have Mr Graham Frost, a great long term friend of this 'Guide', to thank for pointing out this location.
This is claimed to be the last military 'airfield' to have been opened in Northern Ireland during World War Two. It was ancillary to RAF KILLDEAS and RAF CASTLE ARCHDALE and it appears that 131 OTU (Operational Training Unit) were based here from May 1944 until March 1945.
