Rouncil Towers
ROUNCIL TOWERS: Private airstrip/airfield?
Mr Graham Frost supplied the map and picture. The local area view is from my Google Earth© derived database.
Location: Just W of Warwick Road, and roughly S of Kenilworth town centre
Period of operation: Presumably 1953 to 1954 only?
NOTES: We have Mr Graham Frost, a great friend of this 'Guide', to thank for pointing out this probable location. He tells us that the Taylorcraft Auster 5, G-AGLK (ex RT475), was registered to Mr John Collins at this address from 30.09.53 to 18.02.54 and then declared destroyed. It was later rebuilt and may well be still flying, (by 2026). A common enough story for so many traditonallly built classic British light aircraft. Indeed, some have been rebuilt/restored over the years that the only original part is the constructors plate!
But, being at best a pedantic old sod, was it actually based here? Or just arrived for visits? If anybody can kindly offer advice, this will be most welcome.
